Some songs from the Progressive Rock genre……..

Well……Progressive Rock…..has been around since the mid 1960’s…..been through lots of experimentations, evolution and time changes…….and continuing for ever…….

I am not an expert in understanding the different nuances of Progressive Rock, but i do listen to some artists related to this genre and their music do evoke lots of interests of goodness……….Steven Wilson, The Porcupine Tree, Lunatic Soul, The Pineapple Thief…..to name a few………and yes, I do love these bands……

So, that’s what we will listen today……….and once again we will float in the musical brilliance of these artists…..

Progressive rock (shortened as “prog“; sometimes “art rock“, “classical rock” or “symphonic rock“) is a broad subgenre of rock music that developed in the United Kingdom and United States throughout the mid to late 1960s. Initially termed “progressive pop“, the style was an outgrowth of psychedelic bands who abandoned standard pop traditions in favour of instrumentation and compositional techniques more frequently associated with jazz, folk or classical music. Additional elements contributed to its “progressive” label: lyrics were more poetic, technology was harnessed for new sounds, music approached the condition of “art“, and the studio, rather than the stage, became the focus of musical activity, which often involved creating music for listening, not dancing.

Most of the compositions in this are relatively long……as this one from The Pineapple Thief called ‘The Final Thing on my Mind’…….

Hope you will like this one……:)

‘One of the best ways to define progressive rock is that it is a heterogeneous and troublesome genre – a formulation that becomes clear the moment we leave behind characterizations based only on the most visible bands of the early to mid-1970s’

Paul Hegarty and Martin Halliwell.

Next up is Steven Wilson’s ‘Insurgentes’…….

Next is another beautiful song…..from Lunatic Soul….

Another one from Pineapple Thief………a beautiful creation….

Porcupine Tree has been one of the big names in this genre and had Steven Wilson as the front man till he decided to go solo……………..Here’s one song from this band……

Music knows no boundaries……and has fewer limitations……there lies the beauty……….

Here’s ending today’s post with Steven Wilson’s ‘Harmony Korine’………..and this song is real hard hitting……full rock with some amazing guitar play……..another kind of art…….

Enjoy….

Stay musically connected……:)
